Disaster Relief

Provide food for a family for 1 month

We’ve all felt the impact of rising food prices. In the developing world, families are facing malnutrition and even death. You can feed a family for a month with your $50 donation to Compassion International.

$1,500 is all it takes to build a secure shelter for a family who lost their home in the earthquake. Please prayerfully consider giving what you can to provide safe shelters for our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

The Church is Marching On

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck southwest Haiti Saturday, August 14, 2021. 15,654 Compassion-assisted children were affected. 16 tragically died, others lost family members, homes and their sense of safety.

The earthquake destroyed or damaged 12,000 homes and 34 local churches/child development centers.

We’ve distributed 5,593 vouchers for stronger building materials designed to withstand heavy rains and provide protection from intruders. 2,100 homes have been repaired or rebuilt. Compassion has also constructed 21 transitional spaces to use as meeting places for children, their families and churches to gather and seek refuge.

We celebrate what’s been done but know there is much more to do. Six months after the earthquake, southern Haiti still feels the aftershocks. This will be a lifelong journey for so many Haitians.

In rebuilding homes, meeting spaces and child development centers we are helping stabilizing communities so the local church can continue to support and serve.

We, the Church get to be a reminder of God’s consistency in comfort, guidance and prayer.

Together, let’s rebuild to fortify and strengthen the local church. Let’s rebuild and keep marching on

Your gifts will help support rebuilding efforts for those affected by the earthquake. You can help give families a safe place to live, and provide churches with a place to minister and worship together.

Hope in a Home

“I cried when I saw the debris of the house after the disaster,” said Vania. The August 14 earthquake crumbled the home she shared with her husband and six children.

In the hours after the earthquake, Compassion center staff members visited the family and provided emergency food, water and cover from the rain.

The weeks and months that followed were difficult for Vania and her family. When she learned her family would receive a temporary shelter, she was overjoyed. It was a direct answer to her prayers.

“I lost my house with everything in the earthquake, but God preserved my family. I know He had a good reason for that, and He proved to me His kindness through the support we received from our Compassion family,” said Vania.

After a week of construction began, the family moved into their shelter. Although it is not a final home, the family is extremely grateful.

Vania says, “Where people see a temporary shelter, I see a palace. The Lord heard our cries and responded through Compassion.”

Donate to Disaster Relief

Low- and middle-income countries are often the world's most disaster-prone areas, and for many people, disaster relief funds are their only source of hope and recovery. Disasters and crises are especially hard on children, who are more vulnerable than adults, so giving disaster relief through a child-focused organization like Compassion can be especially powerful. Children have little resources and no voice, so they are not able to recover from a disaster without your help.

Compassion's Disaster Relief fund provides children and their families with basic necessities like food, clean water, shelter, clothing, household items and even medical care and trauma counseling.

Disaster relief and recovery is a long-term process, but Compassion's Disaster Relief program is helping children when they most desperately need it. It is a safety net for those living in countries with no other safety nets. Please donate today, or consider sponsoring a child in Haiti.
